Work Readiness Opportunities for Students

 
Solano County Office of Education facilitates a partnership between Solano County school districts, Chambers of Commerce, and the Solano County Workforce Development Board to offer a Work-Ready! Certification program for students.

Solano Work Ready! Program for Students

The Work-Ready! Certificate Program for students is a three week workshop providing over twenty hours of work related instruction and support. The program helps students locate job opportunities, learn interview skills and develop a resume. Workshop topics include: time management, resume writing, job search & application cover letters, work habits, customer service, teamwork, appropriate dress, interview techniques, and mock interviews.

STUDENTS- HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Students can contact their school counselor to inquire about the next Work Ready! Certificate program offered by Solano County Office of Education at their school.
 

EMPLOYERS - HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Effective partnerships between education and employers can make areal difference to young people. Career Technical Education needs you!
Forms of involvement might include: 
  • Raising the general awareness of the "world of work" and preparing young people for the demands they will meet in the 21st century workplace 
  • Raise the career consciousness of students in particular sectors of the workforce 
  • Provide workplace experience either through job shadow opportunities or internships 
  • Becoming a guest speaker 
  • Providing a "hands-on" lesson in the classroom.

PRE-Apprenticeships

Automotive pre-apprenticeship program at Ron DuPratt Ford
 
Vacaville Unified School District and Ron DuPratt Ford have partnered on an automotive pre-apprenticeship program for Will C. Wood High School students enrolled in Automotive I and II courses. The program includes opportunities for student to job shadow and apply for a pre-apprenticeship in a variety of departments at Ron DuPratt. 
 
Students who wish to participate in the program must complete a series of Ford training modules and a job shadow experience and an application process. If accepted, students can apprentice with a member of the Ron DuPratt team in one of several departments including: quick lane, parts, sales and service.  Solano County Office of Education’s College and Career Readiness Department is supporting students with applications, resume writing, and interviewing skills.
