Preparing students to learn, grow, thrive and achieve life-long success

Homeless Youth Services

State and Local Educational Agencies must ensure that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including public preschool program, as other children and youth. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act ensures educational rights and protections for children and youth experiencing homelessness.

The Mission of the Solano County Office of Education, Homeless Youth Services (HYS), is to provide homeless youth living within Solano County with the resources needed to achieve their maximum educational potential and to support school districts with the implementation of McKinney-Vento by providing technical training and resources to district staff who support homeless youth.

The HYS program is committed to achieving the following goals:

  • Improve youth academic achievement
  • Improve youth attendance and reduce truancy and dropout rates
  • Increase awareness and access to post-secondary educational and vocational options
  • Access to social worker for wrap-around services, basic necessities and referrals to community resources
