The Solano County Office of Education’s Youth Development Services provide opportunities to engage youth as active members of a community through safe and healthy programs that enhance self-esteem, achieve academic excellence, and learn teamwork and good citizenship. As a result, youth are better prepared for success in a career and college pathway.

Youth Development is the ongoing growth process in which all youth are engaged in attempting to (1) meet their basic personal and social needs to be safe, feel cared for, be valued, be useful, and be emotionally/mentally grounded, and (2) to build skills and competencies that allow them purpose and contribute in their daily lives.

Youth Development is a process that all young people go through on the way to adulthood. It is a process or journey that automatically involves all of the people around a youth. A young person will be able to build essential skills and competencies and be able to feel safe, cared for, valued, useful, and emotionally/mentally grounded because their family and community provide them with the supports and opportunities they need along the way. Thus, youth development is also a process in which family and community must actively participate.
Youth development currently exists in a variety of different places, forms and under all sorts of different names. SCOE works hard toward building positive results in the lives of youth by providing them with the supports and opportunities they need to empower themselves.

Youth Development Services' Special Projects are also designed to keep youth safe and healthy by engaging them as active members of the community in a variety of programs offered through Prevention Education and academic enrichment through Special Events.
