The 4th  Annual Solano Youth Resiliency Summit Planning Team is excited to announce the workshops that will be available for middle and high school students on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Below are all the workshops that will be offered at the Summit.

Sharpen the Saw gets its name from the story of a man chopping down a tree with a dull saw. When asked why he didn't stop to sharpen his saw, he said he was too busy chopping wood. Keeping ourselves "sharp" in four areas - body, brain, heart, and soul allows us to do everything else better.

Based on the best-selling book by Sean Covey, the Introduction to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens Workshop helps students practically apply personal leadership principles to the tough choices they face every day. Utilizing relevant interactive exercises, plus humor and videos, students will laugh while they learn how to gain greater control of their lives and build relationships high in trust.

Stress is apart of our everyday lives; and just because we are teenagers doesn't mean we don't experience stress! Did you know that there is short and long term, good and bad stress? This interactive workshop will offer insights into what causes stress, how it affects us and how young people can cope in healthy ways.

This workshop illustrates connections between Social Determinants of Health and the STI epidemic in Solano County. The purpose of the presentation is to advance health equity and empower youth to self-awareness about STI prevention.

FENTANYL CAN KILL, BUT YOU CAN SAVE WITH NARCAN

This workshop will provide an overview of opioids in Solano, especially fentanyl, a very deadly form of opioids. Including, the dangers of using someone else's prescription drugs, buying drugs on the street, and buying counterfeit drugs (often labeled as the real thing) from non-pharmaceutical sources. Students will learn how using/administering Narcan/naloxone to reverse opioid poisoning can save a life!

This is an interactive workshop designed to help us all be a better ally to people of color (POC), LGBTQ, and others. We will look at privilege and power, whether it is our own or others and who we can use our power and privilege to help others.

Tobacco products include much more than cigarettes; everything from vapes, e-juice, hookahs, and everything in between. Big Tobacco directly targets specific populations, spending a whopping $1,000,000 every hour on advertisements. Find out who's being targeted and how, what resources are available, and how to fight back!

DANCE WITH JARED

Presenters: A Primmally Playful Foundation, Jared Hippler
 
Twice served Peace Corps Volunteer (Kyrgyzstan and Guatemala) and now director of A Primmally Playful Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the mental health of youth through play. Jared has lived and worked in more than 12 countries. He loves to teach the importance of play and movement for bettering one's mental health, including dancing, mixed martial arts, and soccer, just to name a few.

Students will learn the importance of mindfulness in choosing their food, how they spend their time, and attention. Resources will be provided to assist students in establishing a routine of relentless wellness!
