Tobacco Prevention Curricula, Intervention, and Cessation

Prevention Curricula

TUPE staff will provide training and technical assistance for educators to lead tobacco prevention curriculum for students in grade 6-12. Prevention curricula are evidence-based, align with TUPE and California State Board of Education's Health Education/ATOD Standards (justifying implementation during class time), are accessible, culturally relevant, and align with the TUPE needs assessment which identified the need to implement/continue prevention curriculum that is a comprehensive substance abuse prevention program. All prevention curricula are flexible to be used in various settings, and will equip students with knowledge, skills, and strategies to resist drugs including tobacco.
 

Intervention and Cessation Programs

TUPE staff will provide a menu of age-appropiate tobacco intervention and cessation programs for schools to use as alternatives to suspensitons, provide training and TA for the identified intervention services. TUPE staff has identiied for intervention strategies that support the needs of those students most likely to use, or currently using tobacco in different settings through indvidieal and group interventions based on school structure, capacity, and needs. All intervention and cessation strategies/programs are available to students who self-refer and/or students who are first time offenders of violating tobacco policies on campus.

Tobacco Free Certification

Tobacco Free Certification

TUPE districts must be in compliance of Californai Health and Safety Code Section 104420, a tobacco-free school. A tobacco-free school prohibits all tobacco use, anytime, anywhere by anyone on all school properties, and at all school sponsored events.
